About Lexi

RLexi Berard is a Life After Birth® trained psychotherapist who specializes in working with couples and individuals exploring their relational patterns or going through life transitions, especially the entry into parenthood. She holds a Masters degree in Clinical Psychology from Antioch University, Los Angeles and has specialized training in depth psychology, emotionally-focused therapy, trauma-informed modalities, sex therapy, addiction treatment, and LGBTQIA+ affirmative therapies.

She works with couples and women navigating the world-altering transition into parenthood, an identity shift affecting not only the mother but the relationship between parents. This is a new life stage that includes profound changes many aren’t prepared for, and can come with overwhelm, fear, anxiety, depression, and increased conflict and resentment within couples — especially if both partners are trying to balance their careers and individual pursuits. This phase of life can come with a decrease in sexual intimacy and stress about childcare and finances.

Lexi helps parents in individual therapy cope with this life change themselves and supports couples in working through this transition together. She provides actionable strategies to help make your day-to-day life feel easier and less overwhelming and helps increase connection and communication, working through issues such as lack of intimacy and feeling misunderstood by your partner. She helps break the cycle of conflict between couples and develop new, healthy patterns for this important new stage of your lives and relationship.

She also supports women navigating the tension between her identities of mother and individual, especially for those who are entering parenthood after a lifetime focused on her career. She can support you as you navigate the transition back to work from maternity leave, the transition to leaving your baby with a care provider, and finding yourself and your new identity after the transformative experience that is birth.

Prior to becoming a therapist, Lexi worked in the business world and spent over a decade in the highly demanding advertising industry. She’s also a registered yoga teacher and often incorporates breathwork and mindfulness practices in her therapeutic work with clients. She lives in Los Angeles with her husband, son, and corgi.

Individual Therapy

Sometimes there are more sensitive issues that warrant a deeper dive 1:1 with a mental health professional. All Life After Birth® Psychotherapists are trained in perinatal (pregnancy + postpartum) issues, which can help expectant + new parents navigate challenges that include, but are not limited to: birth complications/trauma; health issues with baby including time spent in the NICU; experience with Perinatal Mood and Anxiety Disorders (PMADs); discord with partner and/or other relationships; breastfeeding issues; identity and/or body image issues; grief and loss issues.

Couples Therapy

The change in dynamics in your relationship after the birth of a child or children can benefit from the guidance of a Marriage and Family Therapist who has a specialty in treating the perinatal (pregnancy + postpartum) period. MFTs can help normalize what can happen in a partnership when you become parents, work with you to improve communication, and provide tools and resources to set you up for success as a couple.

GroupTherapy

These process-oriented support circles run by Masters-level perinatal mental health professionals tend to the birthing person. It is vital to have a safe place to make sense of your initiation or re-entry into parenthood. After becoming a parent, one typically hits the ground running and does not often take the time to acknowledge their metamorphosis. These groups are like a counterpart to mommy & me classes, which are typically more didactic in nature and focus on the child—their development, sleeping and schedules, etc. These practical matters do come up in our discussions, yet these circles take deep dives into subjects surrounding the drastic transformation from maiden to mother. For more info you can read:
